RETIRED: Congratulations to Linda Shipley Salem, a 1980 Barboursville High School graduate, who retired this week from Valley Health Systems Inc., after 40 years of service. Shipley received her undergraduate degree from Marshall University in 1985 and her graduate degrees, MSN FNP, in 1993. From her beginnings as a registered nurse at the Valley Health Youth Center in 1985 to her role as a family nurse practitioner in Gallipolis Ferry and Apple Grove, Shipley has dedicated her career to serving others through nursing. In retirement, Linda plans to volunteer within the community, and she and her husband, Ted, plan to hang out at their farm in Mason County. She says that she is excited to spread her wings and to embrace this new adventure in her life.

THINGS TO DO: Several activities are happening in Barboursville this weekend. The Barboursville Rotary Club is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser — pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice — at the Barboursville Senior Center, 721 Central Ave., from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. A Mother’s Day Tea will be held at the Village House Venue on Central Avenue with two time sittings, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; tickets are $12. This is hosted by the Village of Barboursville Convention and Visitors Bureau. The annual Vineyard in the Village event will be held from 5-6 p.m. for the VIP session and 6-9 p.m. for the general admission session.
