PROCTORVILLE, Ohio ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The annual Lawrence County Fair is returning to the Proctorville fairgrounds next week with exhibits, rides and shows.
Local chapters of the Future Farmers of America and 4-H will participate in the fair with animal shows.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI see the fair as, number one, for the kids that participate,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Lawrence County Fair coordinator Randall Lambert said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œClose to 1,000 children in the county will participate during the week in some form through FFA and 4-H, so thatÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s really the number one thing.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Lambert said participating children develop confidence and a sense of responsibility through taking care of their animals in preparation for the fair.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThey have shows that they show them in for ranking and they have showmanship,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Lambert said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThey have to do educational courses to learn about their animals, so itÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s a learning process. ItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s learning how to handle the animals, how to get them ready for the shows, and how to present the animal. ... Not only is it a responsibility builder, but itÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s a confidence builder.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Alongside the 4-H and FFA animal shows, the fair will also host a variety of exhibits, entertainment and vendors.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe second phase of the fair is to provide the community with entertainment at a rate a lot cheaper than they would have to pay otherwise,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Lambert said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œFor the people that may not be able to take vacations or go see that type of entertainment, theyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™re able to come to the fair and enjoy the fair with the entertainment exhibits that we have and the rides.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
While there has been an increase in entry fees this year, Lambert said the fee is still a good value for attendees.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œOur fee at the gate this year is $15 because we have a real good ride company, so we had to raise them in order to keep them,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Lambert said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe rides we have, most of them will be at the Ohio State Fair later, so thatÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s the quality of rides.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
A weeklong pass is $40. Senior tickets are $5. Children age 2 and younger get in free, and veterans get in free on Tuesday.
During the fair, there will be three different derbies held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
The Cincinnati Circus will be hosting shows at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday for the fairÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Family Day.
On Thursday, the Southeastern Ohio Pulling Series will host a truck and tractor pull.
