CANTATA: An Easter cantata, ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI Surrender All,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ will be performed at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. by a community church choir made up of several instrumental musicians and choirs from Barboursville First United Methodist, Pea Ridge United Methodist, Steele Memorial United Methodist, and Barboursville Baptist churches. Trina Smith is the conductor. Everyone is invited.
EXHIBIT: The 14th Annual National Juried Art Exhibition is now hanging at Marshall UniversityÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s School of Art and Design with lots of entries. Local artist Vernon Howell has one mixed media piece in the exhibit titled, ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œOut and In and Around.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ If you are near MarshallÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s campus sometime this spring, take time to enjoy all the talent displayed in this exhibition. Howell is retired from Barboursville High School where he taught art and was a football coach. He and his wife Beverly live in Barboursville.
80TH: Frankie Jobe was surprised when he and his wife, Sheila, drove out to Barboursville Park last Saturday, April 5, and 75 family members, friends, neighbors and church family were there to help him celebrate his 80th birthday. His two children, Ryan Jobe and Shelley Gibson, and friend, Karen Sansom, planned the party and were successful in keeping it as a surprise. Several who attended the party were his brother, Charlie Jobe of Barboursville; his daughter-in-law, Brittany Jobe; son-in- law, Michael Gibson; four grandchildren, Jacob and Ethan Gibson and Avery and Parker Jobe; and more than 20 nieces and nephews. Frankie is retired from Special Metals Corporation, is an active member at Gloryway Baptist Church, and loves to garden and watch his grandkids in their activities and sports. Frankie and Sheila live in Salt Rock.
DINNER: Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2508 Merritts Creek Road, Huntington, is offering a free dinner today, April 11, from 5 until 6 p.m. The menu is chili, cornbread, crackers and dessert. The meal may be eaten in or taken out. All are welcome.
FISH FRY: Lenten fish dinners are being served at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School, 5535 Norway Ave., Huntington, through the month of April from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evenings. Meals include baked or fried fish or fish tacos, cole slaw, green beans, baked potato or French fries, hush puppies, dessert, and beverage. Cheese pizza is available for children. Meals are $12 for adults; $5 for children, 3-10 years old; and children 2 years and younger eat free. BREAKFAST: The VFW Post 6878 in Proctorville, Ohio, is offering its monthly breakfast Saturday, April 12, from 8-10 a. m. for $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 years and younger. The menu includes fried or scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, toast, fried apples, coffee, milk and orange juice. The Auxiliary will also have a bake sale. Everyone is welcome and to-go meals are available.
MOTHERÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™S DAY: Tickets are now on sale at the Village of Barboursville Convention and Visitors Center for the MotherÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Day Tea that will be held on May 10 at the Village House venue on Central Avenue. Two time slots are available at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.
WINE: Vineyard in the Village returns to Barboursville on May 10 and tickets are now available for $35 for general admission and $85 for VIP admission. The VIP hour from 5-6 p.m. will feature premium wines with complimentary food pairings and also includes admission to the general session. The general admission session will run from 6-9 p.m. and includes a variety of wine sampling, boutiques, vendors, live music and local food vendors.
