West Virginia University wrestling coach Tim Flynn has announced the signing of Brayden Ivy and Brian Finnerty to National Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
ֱThese are great late additions as they are both good fits to the culture that we are building in Morgantown,ֱ Flynn said. ֱTheyֱre good students, really good athletes and hard workers, so I think they will represent WVU well.ֱ
Ivy, projected to wrestle at 149/157 pounds, makes his way to WVU from Tennessee, where he was a two-time TSSAA Division II state champion, NHSCA National All-American and National Prep All-American while competing for Lakeway Christian Academy.
The Morristown, Tennessee, nativeֱs first state title at 138 pounds in 2021 launched him into LCA wrestling history as Ivy, along with teammate Keyveon Roller, became the first wrestlers in program history to achieve the feat.
Finnerty, projected to wrestle at 184/197 pounds, comes to WVU fresh off winning the 2022 PIAA Class 3A state championship at 215 pounds, closing his high school career as Thomas Jefferson High Schoolֱs first state champion in program history.
The Jefferson Hill, Pennsylvania, native was also a two-time state qualifier and finished in the top six twice at the annual Powerade Wrestling Tournament in 2021 (sixth) and 2022 (third).
ֱThey both had success at a high level in high school, which every coach in every sport is looking for. Theyֱre at weight classes that we were looking at, so they are really good fits for our program,ֱ Flynn added.
The duo joins incoming freshmen Brody Conley and Ian Bush, as well as Virginia Tech transfer Sam Hillegas and Pitt transfer Austin Cooley as part of Flynnֱs 2022 recruiting class.
