WAYNE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Wayne County is receiving assistance with epidemiology case work through a new agreement with a nearby health department.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) went into effect April 17 between the Wayne County Health Department and the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, specifying that the Cabell-Huntington Health Department ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œwill perform eight hours per week of epidemiology case work to include case investigations, contact tracing and data entry.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
The MOU says Cabell-Huntington Health DepartmentÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s director of epidemiology ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œwill oversee the management of duties for the staff epidemiologist assignedÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ and that the department will ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œsend a monthly invoice to (the Wayne County Health Department) with an hourly rate of $28.64 and fringe expenses to include taxes and workers compensation.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Tracey Sebastian, director of nursing at the Wayne County Health Department, said her department did the MOU to enhance services. Sebastian, who is a registered nurse, said she needed help with cases.
She also noted that Cabell was already housing regional epidemiology that serves Wayne County, among other counties, so the MOU was not the beginning of the two departmentsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ relationship.
According to the MOU, the Wayne County Health Department and the Cabell-Huntington Health Department both have the ability to terminate the MOU with a minimum of 30 days notice, and the ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œcontract will remain in place until further notice is given by either entity.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Last month, the second month the MOU was in effect, Wayne County faced several confirmed cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, which were reported at two schools in northern Wayne County.
