ROANOKE, W.Va. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Defending champion Bryan Myers secured the top seed in the 2024 West Virginia Senior Amateur Championship through stroke play on Monday morning then followed that up with a berth in the quarterfinals.
Myers, from Wheeling, finished stroke play tied with HuntingtonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Ian Patrick with a par-72 as the pair took the top two seeds for Monday afternoonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Round of 16.
In that round, Myers defeated BarboursvilleÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Dell Adkins, 3 and 1, to advance to TuesdayÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s quarterfinal where he will face John Bumgarner of Scott Depot. Bumgarner won 6 and 5 over Chuck Workman to advance.
Patrick defeated Jeff Harper 6 and 4 to advance to the quarterfinals where he will meet Michael Koreski, the No. 7-seed, who defeated No. 10 Jay Davis in 19 holes.
Other quarterfinal matchups on Tuesday will include No. 4 Todd Westfall versus No. 12 Van Stemple. No. 3 Brian McPherson advanced to the quarterfinals against No. 6 Bob Clark.
Glasby captures lead in womenÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s state Am Championship
Susan Glasby shot a 1-over-par 72 on Monday to emerge as the leader following the second round of the 101st West Virginia WomenÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s amateur Championship at Bridgeport Country Club.
Glasby ended the day at 6-over-par for the tournament giving her a one stroke lead over Emily Holzopfel and Savannah Hawkins.
The leader after SundayÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s first round, Holzopfel shot a 78 on Monday to fall out of the leader position.
Hawkins, of Hurricane, shot a 75 for MondayÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s round ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” shaving one stroke off her total on Sunday ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” to finish 3-over-par-72 for the day and tying her with Holzopfel at 7-over for the three-day tournament.
The climb up the leaderboard in the championship flight for Hawkins included an eagle on the par-5, 496-yard first hole. Hawkins survived three bogeys, a double bogey on the fifth hole to get a birdie on the 10th hole.
MiltonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Taylor Sargent also had a strong day, shooting 2-over-par for the round to move into fourth place at 8-over for the tournament.
Kimberly Eaton and Cathleen Wong, at 18-over for the tournament, Sara Veara (19-over) and Audrey Kerr (23-over) rounded out the leaderboard.

Myers edged Huntington's Ian Patrick for the No. 1 spot in the championship bracket although both golfers finished with par 72 following Monday morning's stroke play.
Myers drew Barboursville's Dell Adkins in the Round of 16 while Patrick, the No. 2-seed, faced Jeff Harper.
Patrick defeated Harper 6 and 4 to advance to Tuesday's quarterfinals.
Glasby takes the lead in the Women's Am
Four birdies during Monday's second round helped Susan Glasby take a one-stroke lead in the 101st West Virginia Women's Amateur Championship.
Glasby, a Chesapeake, Ohio, resident knocked down birdies on the ninth, 10th, 15th and 17th holes at Bridgeport Country Club to finish the second round with a 73, 1-over par.
Through two rounds Glasby holds a one stroke lead over Emily Holzopfel and Hurricane's Savannah Hawkins who are tied for second at 7-over.Â
Holzapfel followed up her first round best 73 with a 6-over for the day on Tuesday allowing Glasby to move into the lead and Hawkins moving into a tie heading into Tuesday's final round.
Glasby's performance helped her also hold a day two charge from Milton's Taylor Sargent who shot a 74 on Tuesday to improve to 8-over for the tournament.
Hawkins eagled the par-5 first hole and birdied the par-5 10th hole finishing the day with a 75.Â
Kimberly Eaton and Kathleen Wong each finished the day tied at 18-over. Sara Veara shot 9-over in the second round for a 19-over for the tournament.
Audrey Kerr rounded out the leaderboard in the championship flight with a 12-over for the day. Kerr is 23-over for the tournament.
