APPLE GROVE, W.Va. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Nucor Corp. introduced a weekly Consumer Spot Price (CSP) for its hot-rolled steel coil on Monday, the company announced in a news release.
The recycled-content steelmaker says the CSP has been designed to provide its customers with consistent and transparent communications regarding the companyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s hot-rolled coil spot pricing.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe are constantly looking for better ways to serve our customers, not only with quality products and services but also with timely information that will help them make informed decisions for their businesses,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Rex Query, executive vice president of sheet products for Nucor Corporation, said in a news release. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe CSP will give our customers relevant and current information about NucorÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s sheet business in a rapidly changing marketplace, which we believe will reduce their reliance on speculation and reduce risk.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
The steelmaker intends to release a new CSP figure every Monday, issuing a price that will remain in effect until the next weekly publication.
NucorÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s CSP pricing will be derived from both quantitative and qualitative data, and lead times for all spot orders will be offered between three and five weeks to assist customers with planning, according to the release.
Steelmakers in the United States commonly announce price changes when they occur, with those changes sometimes effective immediately.
Nucor Steel West Virginia hosting tire take-back day
Nucor Steel West Virginia will host a drive-through ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œTire Take-Back Day,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ the company announced last week in a news release.
The event takes place from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 20, at the Ashton Lodge at 32229 Huntington Road in Ashton.
The company said each community member can bring up to five car or light-duty truck tires to the event and volunteers will remove them from your vehicle for disposal. Tires must be off the rim to be accepted, the company added.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe will not accept oversized or agricultural use tires or tires from private businesses,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ the release states.
Nucor Steel West Virginia said the event is part of its Earth Day celebration. Earth Day is Monday, April 22.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œRecycling your old tires not only helps keep West Virginia beautiful, but recycled tires also help make products such as shock absorbing mulch for playgrounds and athletic tracks,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ said Dustin Land, Nucor Steel West VirginiaÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s environmental manager.
Land said recycling old tires helps keep new, raw materials from being consumed and keeps tires out of the streams and rivers used for fishing, swimming and boating.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œBurning tires can negatively impact the air we breathe and throwing tires in the river can impair the water we drink,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he said.
Nucor is North AmericaÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s largest steel producer with 26 scrap-based steel mills and 300+ total locations, 96% of which are located in the United States. Nucor is also the largest recycler in the Western Hemisphere and among the top five recyclers in the world.
In 2022, Nucor recycled nearly 19 million gross tons of scrap.
