Symmes Valley defeated Chesapeake 35-0 Friday in the Battle for the Paddle high school football game. The trophyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s named for Symmes Creek, which links both communities in Lawrence County.
The Vikings (1-0) held the Panthers to minus-39 yards rushing and 20 total yards. Symmes Valley also forced four fumbles, recovering three, and took advantage of 13 penalties Chesapeake (0-1) committed for 85 yards.
Asher Maynard ran for touchdowns of 3, 7 and 7 yards. The 3-yarder was the game winner at 7:15 of the first quarter.
Bronx Carpenter threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Levi Russell and a 16-yard scoring strike to Andy Strow, to give the Vikings a 22-0 halftime lead.
Carpenter completed 19 of 23 passes for 174 yards.

PORTSMOUTH WEST 30, FAIRLAND 27: The Senators (1-0) jumped to a 16-0 lead and broke a four-game losing streak against the Dragons (0-1) at the Rock.
West used big plays early. Anthony Bishop ran 96 yards for a touchdown before the Senators scored on a safety. Brody Hall followed with a 55-yard TD pass to Braden Adkins.
Fairland pulled within 16-6 on Owen BurchamÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 11-yard touchdown strike to Ford Rickard only to see Hall throw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Cristian Quirasco to make it 23-6.
The Dragons rallied on TD plunges by Xander Collins and Garrett Massey before Adkins threw 11 yards to Hall to make the score 30-20. Burcham threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kylan Blake with 3:02 to play to set the score.
Fairland hurt itself on several occasions. Burcham threw an interception at the West 2 to set up BishopÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s long touchdown jaunt. A bad snap on a punt led to the safety. HallÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s touchdown pass to Quirasco came with 6 seconds remaining in the first half. A personal foul penalty kept a West scoring drive alive in the second half.
The Dragons recovered an onside kick late and drove to the Senators 17, but the drive stalled there.
Burcham completed 13 of 18 passes for 150 yards and ran for 91 yards on 17 attempts.
Hall was 9 for 13 for 211 yards. Adkins caught four passes for 200 yards. Bishop carried 20 times for 154 yards.

Ely Sizemore connected on all seven of his passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Judah Cremeens rushed seven times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Layne Wright caught three passes for 102 yards and one TD.
Wright returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. South Gallia also had touchdowns of 71 and 68 yards.
GREENUP COUNTY 37, PIKE COUNTY CENTRAL 6: Jasper Davis completed 10 of 15 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Musketeers (1-0) over the Hawks (0-1) on the Farm.
Davis also ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Tyler Johnson caught four passes for 73 yards and one touchdown. Ashur Wireman snared five passes for 64 yards. Jaxon Law made 13 tackles.
EASTERN MEIGS 23, MEIGS 19: The Eagles outscored the Marauders 16-6 in the second half to win in Pomeroy, Ohio.

Gunner Cleland threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Griffin Hudson 31 seconds into the third quarter to put the Marauders up 19-7. Jacob Parker and Parker Durst each scored on 1-yard runs to give Eastern a 20-19 lead. Hayden Wilcoxon kicked a 31-yard field goal with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter to set the score.
Durst carried 19 times for 119 yards. Cleland went 16 for 21 for 218 yards.

Carson Lyons and Jack Whaley scored to put St. Joe up 2-0. After Quinn Wells found the back of the net for Lynchburg-Clay, Lyons scored again for a 3-1 lead.
Willis pulled the Mustangs within 3-2 but Lyons tallied a goal at 51:51 to make it 4-2. Lynchburg-Clay then scored four straight goals, three by Elam Faust and one by Wells. Whaley set the score with 4:03 left.

GALLIA 10th AT De SALES: Gallia AcademyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s golf team finished 10th in the 24-team at the Chapel Hill golf course in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Big Walnut, Columbus Watterson and Dublin Jerome tied for the team title. Carter Comisar of Watterson was the medalist with a 4-under par 67 on the 6,856-yard course.

RACELAND WINS ALL A: The Rams won the All A tournament at Menifee County with victories over Morgan County and Fairview.
Raceland defeated the Cougars 25-9, 25-12 as Camerynn Gillum made eight assists. The Rams topped the Eagles 25-23, 25-17 behind 18 digs by Bryna Wellman. Peyton Mackie contributed 13 assists and Annie Bradshaw 11 digs.
