OWENSBORO, Ky. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Boyd County defeated Whitley County 4-2 Saturday in the championship game of the Kentucky 2A state championship game at Apollo High School.
Reliever Brayden Coleman pitched 3 2/3 hitless innings to earn the win. Grant Slater went 2 for 3, stole two bases and drove in one run. Conner Davis and Caleb Gray knocked in one run each. Slater, Josh Kelley, Kaden Jones and Charles Smith scored one run apiece.
The Lions (17-3) ran their win streak to 15 games. The Colonels fell to 17-4.
In the quarterfinals, Boyd County beat Logan County 4-0 as Slater and Davis combined for a shutout. Winning pitcher Slater struck out 11 and he and Davis, who earned a save, limited the Cougars (14-7) to three hits. Davis doubled in two runs. Brogan Jones went 2 for 3.
In the semifinals, the Lions topped Russell County 8-0 as Brody Biggs whiffed eight in a complete game effort. Jones went 2 for 4 with three runs batted in. Cameron May and Coleman each went 2 for 4.
RACELAND SPLITS: The Rams won one game and lost one in the All A Classic at Davies County High School in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Raceland beat Campbellsville 2-1 and lost to Owensboro Catholic 11-1.
SYMMES VALLEY 12, PND 0: The Vikings scored nine runs in the first inning of a rout of host Portsmouth Notre Dame.
Tanner Corn pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11. Bronx Carpenter and Braden Hankins each went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs.
Softball
IRONTON WINS TWO: The Fighting Tigers beat West Depford (New Jersey) and New Hartford (New York) in the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Ironton scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally by West Depford 3-2. Aubrey Ferguson singled home two runs to set up Jenna ComplimentÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s game winner. Ava Bihl struck out 11 in earning the win.
Ferguson went 2 for 4. Compliment and Braegan Thomas each was 2 for 3.
Erin Thayer went 3 for 4 and Macey Harrold 2 for 4 for the Eagles (3-7).
Against New Hartford (1-2), Bihl fanned 12 as the Tigers (17-3) dominated. Ferguson went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs. Kenley Neal was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Bihl went 2 for 3 and Miley Bias 2 for 4.
SYMMES VALLEY WINS TWO: The Vikings (19-1) extended their winning streak to 19 with triumphs in Tipp City, Ohio.
Symmes Valley rallied from an 8-2 deficit to beat Tippecanoe 13-10. Marley Ferguson went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Autumn Justice was 3 for 5. Natalie Simpson went 2 for 4 and knocked in two runs. Brenna Tibbs earned the win in relief.
The Vikings also rallied to defeat Northmont 7-4. The Thunderbolts led 3-0 early.
Addy Hawk picked up the win. Lindsey Freman went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Ferguson was 2 for 3 and drove home two.
POINT PLEASANT SPLITS: The Big Blacks lost the first game with Marietta 6-4 and won the second 8-1.
In the nightcap, Chloe Patrick swatted three hits for Point Pleasant. Kyle Queen slapped a pair of hits and Brynn Roush drove in two runs.
RACELAND FALLS IN ALL A CLASSIC: The Rams beat Holy Cross 15-0, Somerset 12-6, Clinton County 1-0 and Whitesville Trinity 2-0 before losing 14-4 to Louisville Ballard in Owensboro, Kentucky.
