Boyd CountyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Brayden Coleman hit a two-run double with two outs in the sixth inning to provide the only offense in the LionsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ 2-0 defeat of Raceland in a meeting of the 16th RegionÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s top two-ranked teams by RPI in the region tournament quarterfinals in a Memorial Day matinee on Monday at Larry Addington Field.
Boyd CountyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Grant Slater kept his 0.00 season earned-run average intact by fielding a ball in front of the mound and getting it home for an inning-ending forceout in the sixth.
Slater allowed the first two Rams to reach in the bottom of the seventh. He was relieved by Conner Davis, who induced a popout to short, a forceout at third on a bunt and a fielderÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s choice out at second to end the game.
ColemanÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s game-winning double plated Davis and Cameron May for the Lions (27-5). It came one batter after Raceland (25-7) intentionally passed Davis to pitch to Coleman.
Kadin Shore took the hard-luck decision for the Rams, working a complete game.
Later Monday, defending region tournament champion East Carter was to meet Fleming County, followed by Ashland-Russell and Rowan County-Morgan County.
FAIRFIELD 7, IRONTON ST. JOE 1: The Lions (10-9) took advantage of four Flyers errors to win in a Division VII playoff opener in Leesburg, Ohio.
Corbin Wiley knocked in three runs, two on a home run. Otis Cockerill went 2 for 3. Cam Miller was the winning pitcher.
St. Joe finished 11-7.
GREEN 16, FEDERAL HOCKING 0: Jonathan Knapp struck out 14 and walked three in throwing a no-hitter as the Bobcats walloped the Lancers in a Division V sectional opener in Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
Green moves on to play Trimble in the second round at 2 p.m. Friday in Logan.
SOUTHERN 7, SOUTH GALLIA 0: Brandon Laudermilt drove in three runs with two hits, including a home run, as the Tornadoes blew by the Rebels in a Division VII district game in Racine, Ohio.
Gryphon Thomas smacked two hits and scored three runs, Will Smith slapped a pair of hits to drive in two runs. Laudermilt struck out 13 to earn the win.
Garrett Gibson swatted two hits for South Gallia.
WESTFALL 6, GALLIA ACADEMY 1: The Mustangs jumped to a 4-0 lead on their way to a victory over the Blue Devils in a Division IV district contest in Williamsport, Ohio.
Maddux was hit by a pitch, scoring Jaxon Myers for Gallia Academy.

COAL GROVE 2, PEEBLES 0: Brianna Malone drove in both runs as the Hornets (18-4) defeated the Indians (6-15) in the Division VI, Region 24, Southeast 2 championship game at Unioto High School.
Malone went 2 for 3. Izzy Kitts was 3 for 3 with two doubles. Abbie Deeds struck out 11, walked one and gave up two hits to earn the win.
Coal Grove advances to the region semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Portsmouth West at Jackson High School.

OHSAA DISTRICT MEETS: ChesapeakeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Cameron Burgess helped the Panthers boys to a second-place finish in an OHSAA Division III district meet at Nelsonville-York High School.
Burgess, who has signed with Marshall University, won the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds and the 110 hurdles in 14.11, edging South GalliaÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Judah Cremeens, who ran 14.79. BurgessÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 110 mark is a district record. He also won the 300 hurdles in 39.61, with Cremeens finishing second in 42.73.
The PanthersÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ Corey Davis set a meet record in the pole vault, going 15 feet. Drew Plantz, runner-up in the pole vault at 10-8, placed second in the 400 in 52.64, just behind Federal HockingÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Dillon Haynes 52.3. Chesapeake won the 4x400 relay in 3:38.55.
In the Division II meet at Meigs High School in Pomeroy, Ohio, South PointÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Emma Layne, who signed with Marshall, won the 100 in 12.36 to edge teammate Leila Hall by 0.33. Layne won the 200 in 25.25, beating runner-up Hayley Edwards of River ValleyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s time of 26.74. Layne won the 400 in 58.89, topping teammate Samiyah Bradburn by 0.5 seconds.
Hall won the 100 hurdles in 14.79. South PointÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Savannah Perego was first in the discus at 128-4 and the shot put at 38-10.5. The Pointers took the 4x100 in 49.09.
In the boys competition, South PointÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Derrick Taylor set a meet record in the discus throw with a heave of 191-2. Gallia AcademyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Cory Mock was second at 160-10. Taylor threw 61-0 to win the shot put. Tanner King of Gallia Academy was second at 47-3.5.
Coal GroveÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Kaden Murphy won the 100 in 11.24, nipping South PointÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Kamren Miller, who ran 11.28. Murphy ran 23.10 in the 200 to place second behind Gallia AcademyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Bradyn Simmons, who ran 22.87. River ValleyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Jansyn Smith finished second in the 800 in 2:00.48, behind Fairfield UnionÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Cordel Runkle, who ran 2:00.43. IrontonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Tyler Carmon leaped 6-2 to win the long jump. Gallia AcademyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Enoch PattersonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 13-foot effort was good enough to win the pole vault by four inches over FairlandÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Conner Black.
Meigs captured the 4x100 in 44.29, bettering second-place South PointÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 44.73. The Marauders won the 4x200 in 1:31.81 to beat IrontonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 1:32.76. The Fighting Tigers placed second in the 4x400 in 3:35.56. Fairfield Union ran 3:28.99 to win the event.
In a Division III district meet at Oak Hill, Ohio, Rock HillÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s boys won their third consecutive championship.
The RedmenÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Aaron Workman won the 110 hurdles in 16.47. Rock Hill took the 4x100 in 45.07, the 4x200 in 4:32.61 and the 4x800 in 8:19.84. They placed second to North AdamsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ 3:32.16 in the 4x400 in 3:35.92. Rock HillÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Izaak Cox won the long jump at 21-4.25. Teammate Rylan Barker was second at 20-11.5. Sam Rusk went 10-6 to win the pole vault.
Cox placed second in the 200 in 22.96, behind Brandon Rayburn, who ran 22.59 for Peebles. Rock HillÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Dakotah Sanders was second in the 800 in 2:00.87, 4.59 off the pace set by Beau Hesler of North Adams. Nixon Snavely ran second in the 1,600 in 4:20.13. Landon Eyre of Whiteoak won in 4:19.77. Snavely ran the 3,200 in 9:34.25 to finished second to Eyre, who ran 9:24.54.
On the girls side, Coal Grove won the 4x400 in 4:32.46. The HornetsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ Allie Stallard won the pole vault, going 9-6. Lydia Meadows won the discus throw at 131-10, 20 feet farther than teammate Isabella Wynn. Kirsten Dome was second in the long jump at 15-6, 1.5 feet off the mark set by NorthwestÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Claire Newman.
In the Division II district meet at Washington Court House, Ohio, Xander Mowery of Wheelersburg won the 400 in 50.71. The PiratesÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ Elijah Brown took the 110 hurdles in 15.89 and the 300 hurdles in 41.61. Kenyon Evans leaped 6-4 to take first in the high jump and 21-5 to win the long jump. WheelersburgÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Cashton Adkins placed first in the discus with a fling of 170-3. Ison Emmitt won the shot put with a throw of 60-5.5. The Pirates won the 4x100 relay in 43.62, the 4x200 in 1:29.76 and the 4x400 in 3:26.77.
In the girls competition, Wheelersburg freshman Ryleigh Harness won the 400 in 1:00.15. Ella Hochstetler won the discus at 130-8 and the shot put at 38-11.
