SOUTH POINT, Ohio ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Few champions go out undefeated, but Summer Collins is doing just that.
The South Point High School girls soccer coach said sheÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s stepping aside to focus on her family, husband Austin and their two daughters. She qualified her resignation, though, with ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œfor a while,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ leaving open the possibility of coaching again.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s time to make a new decision for my family and focus just on my family,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Collins said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI had another great and successful year with my girls. I just want to focus on my babies and be the best mama I can be to them.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
One of CollinsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ daughters just started kindergarten. Collins also is pursuing a masters degree.
In her first season with the Pointers, Collins led South Point to an Ohio Valley Conference championship with a 14-4 record and 10-0 league mark. The conference title was the first ever for the Pointers.
Before going to South Point, the former Huntington High School and Marshall University standout coached Rock Hill, which she led to a 63-15-8 record in five seasons.
Rock Hill went 37-0-3 in OVC play and won five league titles under Collins, meaning her teams never lost in 50 conference contests.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe relationship IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ve had with my players will be unmatched,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Collins said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe created a relationship over the years, and I truly feel like they become my own children. Ask any one of them, and IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ll bet they feel the same. Along with coaching them, I cheer for them, root for them, appreciate them, give them advice when needed, have taught some of them in the classroom and love them.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Collins thanked all her players and said they helped her grow as a coach and a person.
