SPRING VALLEY ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Spring Valley conquered East Fairmont and now has its sights set on the rest of the town.
The seventh-seeded Timberwolves (8-3) walloped East Fairmont 54-6 Friday in a Class AAA high school football playoff opener at the Wolves Den. At 7 p.m. Friday, Spring Valley visits No. 2 Fairmont Senior (10-1) in the quarterfinals.
The Polar Bears will face a team that dominated the Bees (5-6) in every phase of the game. Timberwolves coach Brad Dingess said he particularly was pleased with the offensive and defensive lines which combined to gain 339 yards and hold Fairmont East to 176. Those numbers could have been more lopsided if not for a continuously running clock most of the second half.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe played really, really well,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Dingess said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe were able to run the ball and throw the ball.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Liam, McGuire completed 8 of 12 passes for 131 yards. Jalyn Abercrombie caught six balls for 108 yards and Logan Harris carried 11 times for 118 yards.
The contest was out of hand by halftime, as Spring Valley scored 33 points in the second quarter for a 40-0 lead at the break.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œHarris and Abercrombie played great on that side of the ball,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Dingess said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œOur defense played great. IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m very pleased with them.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
If there was a negative, it was penalties. The Timberwolves committed 14 for 135 yards. East Fairmont was flagged 11 times for 108 yards.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s been that way every game,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Dingess said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI think weÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™re averaging over 10 penalties a game. ThatÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s our kids being aggressive, so IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m not going to say a whole lot.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Fairmont Senior reached the second round with a 35-6 triumph over Point Pleasant. The Spring Valley/Polar Bears winner moves on to the semifinals against the winner from No. 3 Bridgeport (11-0) and No. 6 Nitro (10-1).
