The Chesapeake High School track and field star signed with Marshall University, where he said taking care of academics is a must if heÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s to succeed on the track.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œIÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m sure it will be an adjustment at first,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Burgess said of college classes and competition. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI know the classes will be more challenging and the practices will be harder.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Burgess received a taste of college life Wednesday during orientation at Marshall. He said it went well, and he looks forward to starting his education in medical imaging.
The Thundering Herd is getting one of OhioÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s premier hurdlers in Burgess. He was runner-up in the state in Division II in the 300-meter hurdles in 37.35 seconds, 0.02 seconds behind DaiVonte Young of Dayton Dunbar. Burgess ran third in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.52.
Chuck Wentz touted BurgessÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ coachability.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe at Chesapeake are very proud of him and all his accomplishments and see big things in his future at Marshall,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Wentz said.
Burgess had multiple college options. He said, though, choosing Marshall was an easy decision.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI fell in love with the facilities and the coaches,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Burgess said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI like that itÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s close to home.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
