ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” FairlandÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s boys soccer team has hired one of the premier players in Dragons history as coach.
Mason Fannin, a 2020 Fairland graduate who played at Shawnee State University, is the DragonsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ new leader. HeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s the first former Fairland player to take the helm of the program.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe Fairland soccer program has always been special to me because of my roots here,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ said Fannin, who scored 53 goals in high school. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œCoach (Jason) Wyant left the program in great shape, and IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m excited to continue that tradition and build on the foundation he created.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Fairland athletic director Jeff Gorby said heÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s pleased to add Fannin to the coaching staff.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œIÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m extremely excited for Mason and what this means for our program,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Gorby said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œHis experience as a former player, combined with his passion and commitment to the sport, will make a lasting impact on our athletes and the community.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Fannin inherits a program coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history. Under Wyant, who coached seven seasons, the 2023 Dragons set a school record with 12 wins, finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference and advanced to the district semifinals.
Fannin will lead a talented roster, including senior Trevor Lochow, the reigning OVC offensive player of the year, junior Kyle Salyer, a two-year starter, and David Monge, who made a major impact last season.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œGallia Academy and South Point always field strong teams and will be tough OVC competition again,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Fannin said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œBut our returning players and the culture here make me confident in what we can accomplish.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Added Gorby: ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œMason is a great hire for our community. HeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ll do amazing things with the program.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
