ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Zach McKinney prefers to let his play on the football field speak for him.
On Tuesday, it spoke loudly for the Fairland High School defensive tackle when he signed a letter of intent to play at Glenville State University.
"I thought about walking on at Marshall or Morehead State," McKinney said. "Then I started talking to the coaches at Glenville."
One of those coaches is former Fairland head coach Rashad Jackson, now defensive backs coach at Glenville State. Jackson helped McKinney to join Dragons teammate Tyler Campbell with the Pioneers. Campbell signed last week.
"I want to go up there and learn, work hard and make a name for myself," McKinney said.
McKinney helped Fairland to the Ohio Valley Conference championship and a playoff berth as a junior. He said those are his favorite football memories. McKinney hopes to make new memories at Glenville State in Glenville, W.Va., an NCAA Division II member of the Mountain East Conference.
"Glenville is kind of laid back and I like that," said McKinney, who credited his grandmother Brenda McKinney for being his biggest influence.
