HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Kenneth Jackson pitched seven shutout innings to lead Tri-State (3-2) to a 9-1 victory over Pulaski (3-2) on Tuesday night in Appalachian League baseball at Jack Cook Field.
A right-hander out of Southern University, Jackson gave up four hits, struck out three and walked four.

Gregg allowed Jackson to pitch deeper into the game than is typical in a developmental league.

River Turtles starter Noah Toole, a right-hander from Radford University, matched Jackson early. Tri-State reached him for one run in the fourth inning when Julio Soler (Boston College) singled in Ryan Maggy (West Virginia) for a 1-0 lead.
The Coal Cats scored eight runs in the fifth inning. Xavier Rivera (New Orleans) smacked a base hit to score Bishop Quarles (Bryant & Stratton) to make it 2-0. Reliever Davin Pollard (Austin Peay) then hit one batter and walked two, all with the bases loaded, as Tri-State increased its lead to 5-0.
Ty Smolinski (Kansas State) knocked in a run on a fielderÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s choice and Quarles followed with a two-run double before scoring on a hit by Rivera.
Pulaski broke up the shutout in the eighth inning when Jonathan Holt (Notre Dame) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in JT Taylor (North Carolina A&T).
Solier and Quarles finished 2 for 3. Rivera was 2 for 4. Solier and Rivera each knocked in two runs.
For the River Turtles, TJ Williams (Kansas) and Tyler Sparrer (Radford) each went 2 for 4.
The Coal Cats continue their homestand at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Johnson City Doughboys (2-3).

Wyatt Maynard of Barboursville and Carson Sergent of Huntington won their divisions in the Callaway Junior Golf Tour tournament on Tuesday at the Esquire Golf Couse.
Maynard shot 2-under-par 70 to win the boys 15-16 championship. Sergent took the boys 17-18 title with a 3-over 75.
