HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Tri-State Coal Cats (16-27) won one of three weekend games with the Burlington Sock Puppets (28-16) in Appalachian League baseball at Jack Cook Field.
The games marked the final home series of the season for Tri-State, which plays Tuesday and Wednesday at Kingsport to conclude the 2025 slate.
The Coal Cats lost 13-10 Friday, won 6-4 Saturday and fell 16-3 Sunday.
Friday, Burlington scored seven runs in the first inning and held off a Tri-State rally, Chancellor Jennings (Winthrop), Orlando Fernandez (New Orleans), Preston Yaucher (Penn State) and D.J. Merriweather (Austin Peay) each drove in two runs for the Sock Puppets. Jack Feehery (Duke) was the winning pitcher.
For the Coal Cats, James Henshon (Tufts) knocked in three runs. Tyler Smolinski (Kansas State) went 3 for 4 with two runs batted in. Cesar Gonzalez (Boston College) went 2 for 3. Bryant Yoak (West Virginia) took the loss.
Saturday, Luke Kosko (Cincinnati) went 2 for 3 and Ryan Maggy (West Virginia) 2 for 4 for Tri-State. Kenyon Collins (Marshall) earned the win.
For Burlington, Fernandez went 2 for 3. Tyler Shafer (Brunswick Community College) was the losing pitcher.
Sunday, Yaucher and Dom Kupinski (Miami-Ohio) each drove in three runs. Zach Jackson (Duke) and Bromley Thornton (North Carolina-Wilmington) each knocked in two runs. Jack Hedrick (Duke) picked up the win.
For the Coal Cats, Henshon was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Brendin Oliver (Cincinnati) took the loss.
