PITTSBURGH ֱ The 189th Backyard BasketBrawl went just like 101 others had, as well as the past six for West Virginia as the Mountaineers pulled away from Pitt, leaving the Petersen Events Center Friday night with an 81-56 victory.

Best Virginia scored an 89-79 victory over Herd That on Tuesday in the second round of the TBT in the Charleston region.

The win pushes BV into the regional finals, where it will face the Bucketneers Wednesday at 7 p.m. (ESPN3). The East Tennessee State alums defeated the War Eagles (Auburn) 83-80 in Tuesday nightֱs first game at the Charleston Coliseum

The matchup between the alumni teams from West Virginia and Marshall featured several lengthy runs in the Tuesday night cap, but Best Virginia enjoyed the most significant of those.

The game was tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter, but BV went on a 21-2 run to start the second period, opening up a 36-17 lead. Just when Herd That appeared dead in the water, though, it countered with a 19-3 run of its own to cut that margin to three, 41-38.

Best Virginia rediscovered its offense in the second half, outscoring Herd That 39-21 over a 14-minute span to take an 80-59 advantage into the Elam Ending at the under-four timeout. From there it took Best Virginia a while to hit the target score of 88, but eventually it did so, winning by 10.

Four Best Virginia players reached double figures. John Flowers, who was five of six from 3-point range, had 17 points, as did Jermaine Haley and Kevin Jones. Jamel Morris chipped in 15 for BV, including the game-winner on a 15-footer. Herd That got 19 points from James Kelly, while Jon Elmore had 16.
