CHARLESTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” During a plea hearing at Kanawha County Magistrate Court on Monday, Ryan Jones, 29, of Wayne County, pleaded guilty to the charge of DUI causing death for his role in a 2023 crash that killed his friend Dusty Myers, 26.
According to a criminal complaint, Jones crashed a Chevrolet Silverado in the 2200 block of Legg Fork Road in Sissonville on Oct. 7, 2023. Jones lost control of the vehicle in a turn and struck a tree, which fell on the vehicle.
Jones admitted to drinking two cans of beer around two hours before the crash, according to the initial complaint. During his plea hearing on Monday, Jones testified that his actions caused the death.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI ... drank beforehand and I still decided to operate a motor vehicle,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ said Jones. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œ...I ended up wrecking the vehicle and [killing] one of my best friends.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Jones will serve his sentence with home confinement in Wayne County. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14.
The charge of DUI causing death has a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 15 years. JonesÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ driverÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s license will also be revoked for a period of time.
