In West Virginia, all shoppers will get a break in paying the sales tax for certain items beginning at midnight Aug. 1 and ending at 11:50 p.m. Aug. 4.

Items that fall under the sales tax holiday include:

• Clothing costing $125 or less
• Computers costing $500 or less
• School instruction materials costing $20 or less
• School supplies costing $50 or less
• Sports equipment costing $150 or less

Items purchased to be used in a trade or business are not sales tax-exempt.

There is no limit on the cost of the total purchase, but qualification for the sales tax holiday will be determined by each individual item.

If a discount or store coupon is offered which lowers the price of an item to less than the cost threshold, the item will qualify for the sales tax exemption.

The sales tax exemption also applies to qualifying items purchased through mail, telephone, email or online if the order is accepted during the exemption period. But shipping and handling charges will be taxable.

In Ohio, the sales tax holiday will begin at midnight Aug. 1 and end at 11:50 p.m. Aug. 14.

All tangible personal property costing less than $500 apply, excluding lodging, watercraft or outboard motors, motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vapor products, or items containing marijuana. Food ordered from a restaurant will also be exempt from the sales tax during Ohio's holiday.

There is no limit on the total cost of a purchase, and qualification for the sales tax exemption is again determined by the cost of each item.

All vendors must participate in the sales tax holiday.

Kentucky have a sales tax holiday this year.
