Hurricane Civic Chorus invites new singers
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Hurricane Civic Chorus invites music lovers from all over the area to join them for the fall season.
Beginning with an open house on Aug. 26, the HCC will meet every Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial UMC (2848 Putnam Ave. in Hurricane).
Men and women 15 years old and older are welcome to attend. Directed by Dr. Ilse Long, the HCC sings a wide variety of music, welcomes all singers without requiring auditions, and performs two to three concerts a year.

MMTA hosts Slush Fun Run, Hike and Bike
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance announces its inaugural MMTA Slush Fun Run, Hike and Bike ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” hosted by MMTAÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Junior Board ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15.
Celebrate the end of summer and the start of a new school year at this relaxed, family-friendly event on the Meeks Mountain Trails. Whether you want to run, hike, or bike, this is your chance to get outside, have some fun, cool off at the Sprayground, and enjoy a cold Kona Ice slushie afterward.
Participants should meet at Hurricane City Park around the big red barn to hit the trails first ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” go at your own pace or join a group led by members of MMTAÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s newly established Junior Board.
There will not be a race clock ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” just community, movement, and a sweet, icy reward at the end. ItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s also a chance to learn more about how Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance is working to preserve and expand the trails.

History Alive! program offered Aug. 16 in Eleanor
ELEANOR ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” As part of the Town of EleanorÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 90th Anniversary Celebration, Putnam County Library is sponsoring a free History Alive! performance of ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œMinnie Reed,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ portrayed by Mary Dailey.
The event is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Red House (Eleanor Town Hall).
All ages are welcome to this living history exhibit that will survey the rich history of music in Appalachian culture through the fictitious life of ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œMinnie Reed,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ brought to life by actress and historian Mary Dailey.
Comics vendor show set for Aug. 23
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” West Virginia Comics Buy, Sell & Trade groupÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s vendor show will bring more than 25 vendors to the Social Event Space, 2833 Main St., Hurricane, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Admission is free to this family friendly event, where collectors can expect to find modern and vintage comics, toys and nostalgia.
Suicide support group to meet
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Just-In-Time Survivors of Suicide support group will hold a weekly meeting every Wednesday at the Putnam County Library, 4219 WV-34, Hurricane, from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Gabriel Project to offer baby supplies

TEAYS VALLEY ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Putnam County Schools will offer developmental screenings on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Teays Valley Baptist Church, Teays Valley Road.
Children ages 2 1/2 to 4 years old will be screened for speech/language, hearing, vision, motor skills, social skills, self-help, and cognition.
