Adoptable horses to be showcased
WINFIELD ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The 9th annual Appalachian Trainer Face Off will take place from Thursday, Aug. 21-Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Winfield Riding Stables in Winfield.
Presented by Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, the event pits professional horse trainers against each other to train and then showcase the organizationÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s adoptable horses.

Wade Chapel to host 5th Sunday Evening Service
RED HOUSE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Wade Chapel Church, located at 4490 McLane Pike, Red House, will have a 5th Sunday Evening Service on Aug. 31, beginning at 7 p.m.
There will be special singing by The Buffalo Methodist Church, including the choir and soloists, and tag-team preaching by pastors Mark and Logan Harris.
The church is handicapped accessible. Everyone is welcome.
Church to offer clothing giveaway
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Lighthouse Baptist Community Resource Ministry is hosting a clothing giveaway from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
The giveaway will be located outside at the pavilion of Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US 60, Hurricane.
Bancroft plans annual Town Picnic for Aug. 30
BANCROFT ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Town of Bancroft invites area residents to ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œcelebrate the best of small town lifeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ at its annual Town Picnic at Bancroft Community Park on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Enjoy grilled lunch, HuskeyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s ice cream, music by Jay the DJ, along with games, door prizes, and local history memorabilia.
Festivities are planned from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with lunch anticipated to be served around noon.

Hurricane Harvest Festival set for Sept. 20
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The City of Hurricane invites folks to kick off the fall season at its annual Hurricane Harvest Festival, set for 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hurricane City Park.
There will be dozens of arts and crafts vendors, inflatables, games, giveaways and live bluegrass music. Admission is free.
Hurricane Civic Chorus invites new singers
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Hurricane Civic Chorus invites music lovers from all over the area to join them for the fall season.
Beginning with an open house on Aug. 26, the HCC will meet every Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial UMC (2848 Putnam Ave. in Hurricane).
Men and women 15 years old and older are welcome to attend. Directed by Dr. Ilse Long, the HCC sings a wide variety of music, welcomes all singers without requiring auditions, and performs two to three concerts a year.

Comics vendor show set for Aug. 23
HURRICANE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” West Virginia Comics Buy, Sell & Trade groupÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s vendor show will bring more than 25 vendors to the Social Event Space, 2833 Main St., Hurricane, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Admission is free to this family friendly event, where collectors can expect to find modern and vintage comics, toys and nostalgia.
Suicide support group to meet

Children ages 2 1/2 to 4 years old will be screened for speech/language, hearing, vision, motor skills, social skills, self-help, and cognition.
