HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” A man was shot and killed by a Huntington ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ patrol officer Saturday night, according to by the department.
The man has since been identified as Jayden Michael Arthurs, 19. His driverÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s license listed an address in Sunbury, Ohio, according to City of Huntington officials.
According to the HPD post, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle in the area of 22nd Street and 5th Avenue just before 9 p.m. The driver, since identified as Arthurs, fled east on 5th Avenue and officers pursued in their vehicles.
As Arthurs was crossing the bridge into the Guyandotte neighborhood of Huntington, his vehicle struck an uninvolved motorist, and then continued east on 5th Avenue. The pursuit ended in the 3300 block of 5th Avenue, where ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œcircumstances led to an officer shooting rounds into the suspect vehicle,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ striking Arthurs.
Requests for additional information on the situation that led to the shooting were not answered as of press time Monday.
Officers provided medical attention to Arthurs until Cabell County EMS arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries, according to the HPD post.
There were no other occupants in his vehicle, and no officers were injured during the incident.
The West Virginia State ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ and the Cabell County ProsecutorÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Office, along with Huntington ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ detectives, responded to the scene to investigate.
