IRONTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” A Scioto County man was sentenced to 15 to 18-and-a-half years in prison Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court in a drug case.
Jonathan D. Penix, 37, of Ash Street, Wheelersburg, was convicted last week following a two-day trial before Judge Andy Ballard. Penix was convicted on charges including aggravated possession and trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, possession and trafficking in cocaine and aggravated possession and trafficking in drugs (meth).
He pleaded guilty this week to tampering with evidence and felony vandalism for cutting off an ankle monitor and failure to appear in court.
In an unrelated case, Brendon Legrand, 47, no address listed, denied violating terms of his community control sanctions (probation). He rejected a plea offer that would have ordered him to complete a four- to six-month program at the STAR Community Justice Center in Scioto County.
He also was ordered to wear an ankle monitor and continue treatment until the case is heard July 2. If convicted, Legrand could face up to 18 months in prison.
In other cases:
Michael J. Hey, 45, of Orchard Drive, South Point, denied violating terms of his probation. He failed several drug screenings, according to the county probation office. Tests showed Hey tested positive for using cocaine and using a fentanyl-related compound. He was ordered to continue treatment at Mended Reeds until the case is settled. Hey also will be considered for BallardÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s drug court program.
William W. Gullett, 43, of Daniels Cemetery Road, Greenup, Kentucky, pleaded innocent to having weapons while under disability. He was released on a $10,000 bond while the case is pending.
Michelle N. Brammer, 32, of of Township Road 357, Ironton, was found competent to stand trial in a case of domestic violence. A plea of not guilty by reason of insanity was withdrawn. She was released on a $20,000 recognizance (signature) bond while the case is pending.
Stanley D. Bennett Jr., 43, of County Road 12, Proctorville, denied violating terms of his community control sanctions. The case is set for trial next month.
