HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” A tall red and blue sculpture made of a variety of shapes and curves that glide through the wind are the newest attraction to the Old Central City District gazebo.
The newly installed three-dimensional outdoor art sculptures stand on either side of the gazebo at 14th Street West and were created by artist Becky Borlan.
The sculptures reflect West Virginia and its attributes, Lauren Kemp, executive director of RenewAll and president of the Old Central City Association, told The Herald-Dispatch last week.
The sculpturesÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ acrylic pieces are a tribute to the areaÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s rich history with glassblowing, Kemp said.
The area was once a booming industrial center, with raw materials being processed and made into various products, including glassware, according to its website.
The area was home to companies Huntington Tumbler Company and Rainbow Glass. The sculptures also have nature themes.
Borlan came to the area in March of last year to get inspiration from the area and its history and people during an artist reception.
This public art project is the final of several renovation projects at Central City Park, where the gazebo has received new lighting, landscaping and seating.
