HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Marshall UniversityÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s finance, audit and facilities planning committee will discuss a proposal to spend $1.8 million on a new facility at the Shewey Building on the edge of the Joan C. Edwards Football Stadium before the Board of Governors meeting Wednesday.
According to the project proposal, the ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œShewey DeckÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ would provide a space to watch MarshallÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s football games, including a dedicated club space, an outside deck and a field-level seating configuration on both the east and west sides.
The project would be funded by Athlete Advantage through The Thunder Trust, Marshall AthleticsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ NIL collective, and construction is estimated to last around four months, according to the proposal. Construction would begin with the demolition of the video board on the 3rd Avenue side of the field in April 2025, which is ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œbeyond life span,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ according to the proposal.

The facilityÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s grand opening is estimated to be September 2025, if the project is accepted by the board.
According to the proposal, the total cost of the facility would be $1,899,000, and it would cost around $6,000 per year to maintain.

The letter from DJM Architecture detailing its proposal said three existing rooms within the Shewey Building would be renovated to act as luxury box spaces at the balcony level, and two new bathrooms would be built at the field level on each side of the building. New chairback seating would also be built below the balcony on tiered rows at field-level, according to the proposal.
The finance, audit and facilities planning committee will also discuss proposed changes to the 2024-25 academic year housing rates.
The changes would include an increase from $700 to $714 for the Summer 2025 Meal Plan rate, including 19 meals per week for five weeks.
New leases for The Landing for May 2025 would have a rate adjustment of about 2.5% to reflect ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œinflation and operational cost changes,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ according to the proposal. If passed by the board, studio apartments would increase from $970 to $995, two-bedroom apartments will increase from $1,450 to $1,485, and one bed in a two-bedroom apartment will increase from $755 to $775.
These monthly rate changes would apply to 10- to 12-month leases, according to the proposal.
In other business, the Board of Governors will discuss approving the adoption of the Marshall University Shared Governance Charter that ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œdelineates the roles and responsibilities of each governing body at the University, as well as codifying the process by which these bodies will be reviewed according to the shared governance guiding principles.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
