LAVALETTE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” For 35 years, Ed ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œDannyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s business PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s TradeMart was a fixture on W.Va. 152 at Lavalette. Now, more than two decades after that business shut its doors, his son Billy Plybon has opened a business of his own with the same name and a similar location.
Billy Plybon opened PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s TradeMart at the end of May at 5080 W.Va. 152, Lavalette, just down the road from the former site. His fatherÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s business operated at 4780 W.Va. 152, from the 1970s through the early 2000s. That site is now home to a church.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe lost dad two years ago, and when we lost dad, I had retired ... (and) I decided that I wanted to come up here and open up something similar for myself,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ said Plybon, 58, who is from Lavalette. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI tell everybody that this is a place ... you donÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t have to have money. I will trade with somebody something that they have for something that they want. Or I buy things. And I just love to sell stuff.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s a trading shop,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œIÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ll have different stuff here all the time.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s store was stocked with furniture, jewelry, birdhouses, sleds, cars and trucks, dog cages and more on July 2.
If he doesnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t have an item in the store, he knows where to find it ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œpretty much anything you can imagine,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he said.
Plybon said he decided to revive PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s TradeMart because he thinks ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWayne County needs a place where we can buy, sell and trade. We donÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t have to go to Huntington, 14th Street West; we can do it here.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
He said he worked for his father for 15 years in the old PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s TradeMart. The family tradition also continues with PlybonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s 16-year-old grandson, who works in the new store.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œ(I) did a little bit of everything down there (at the old store),ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Plybon said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI delivered; I sold; I bought and traded. We had a lot of fun down there. We had a lot of fun with the customers down there.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œNo matter what anybody says, Wayne County is one of the best places on Earth,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he continued. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œPeople in Wayne County are more neighborly and would actually help their worst enemy if they needed help ... We do take care of each other here.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
He said patrons of the previous shop should feel a comfortable familiarity in his new store.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s pretty much the same old store, just the second generation,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Plybon said.
The storeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. He said on most Sundays, the day the store is closed, there will be preaching on the storeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s parking lot, and there will regularly be visiting preachers and singers.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI figure if the Lord will let me do what I want to do the first six days of the week, that I should give him the seventh,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Plybon said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œHeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s good to me.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Plybon said his goals for the store include sharing his faith and maintaining his fatherÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s legacy.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI learned how to sell and trade and stuff from him,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Plybon said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œHe (gave) me that, but the thing Dad would be more proud of than anything else is the fact that IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m going to put the Lord first in everything I do.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
