HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Huntington High School student Kethan Neginhal was honored as a representative for the American Legion BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation at his school Tuesday.
BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation, held in Washington, D.C., honors high school juniors with exceptional leadership skills and vast knowledge on the government. Only two students from each state receive the honor of participating.
During the ceremony, Neginhal received a plaque of recognition, two BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation patches, an American flag that was previously flown above the U.S. Capitol from U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and an authenticity plaque for the flag.
According to the American Legion website, the young men who bestow this honor will ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œserve as U.S. senators in a week of mock sessions, party conventions and national landmark visits.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œLeaders there spoke of how wonderful, respectful and honorable he was and how well he represented Huntington High and the state of West Virginia, with his patriotism and just his honor that he gave others while he was there,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ HHS Counselor Elizabeth Fuller said during the event.
Ashley Stephens, family and community engagement facilitator for Cabell County Schools, said in a news release that leaders were highly impressed with his respect for the American flag, military veterans and guest speakers during his time at BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s State. They said these qualities make important attributes in a good leader.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œKethanÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s achievements reflect a strong commitment to service, patriotism and civic responsibility ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” values that are at the core of the BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s State and BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation programs,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Stephens said in the press release.
Neginhal was selected by BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s State, the statewide version of BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation, to be a part of their leadership conference. It was while attending this conference that he was selected for BoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Nation.
During his time, he was the vice president of the Senate.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe whole program is something that everyone should really look into,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Neginhal said.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe American Legion does a great job,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œIt really prepares the next generation and the fact that theyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™re even willing to do something like this is really awesome. It was such a great experience.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
