HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Huntington ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ DepartmentÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s patrol boat will be lifted out of the Ohio River on Thursday morning.
The cityÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s police boat was discovered listing, or taking on water and tilting to one side, during a routine inspection Wednesday morning. It later became fully submerged at the AdamÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Landing Marina in Guyandotte, according to a news release from the City of Huntington.
The patrol boat is called Isaac H. Mitchell. It was purchased in 2013. ItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s used to provide a police presence on the Ohio River during waterfront events and for various investigations.
The Huntington ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Department is overseeing the situation and a contractor, Amherst Madison from Charleston, was on site Wednesday to assess the vessel. Amherst Madison will operate the crane to recover the boat Thursday morning.
After recovery, HPD will assess the boat to determine the extent of the damage and the cause of the incident, according to the release.
