HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Cabell County Commission approved an agreement during its regular meeting Thursday that will allow the local National Day of Prayer event to be hosted on courthouse grounds again.
This yearÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s National Day of Prayer event will occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 1 at the Cabell County Courthouse. Cabell CountyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s event is coordinated by Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District Commissioner T-Anne See.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation.
In other business, the commission approved $6,000 of hotel-motel tax distribution for the Huntington Little League State Tournament. Commissioner John Mandt Jr. said the five-day tournament brings 16 teams from throughout the state into the area.
Mandt said the tournament is a great way to attract people to the area and local businesses as it brings in not only players, but also their families. Travelers will also be able to see what the county and city offer, he said.
During the commissionersÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ representation reports, Commissioner Kelli Sobonya said the commission attended Huntington Mayor Patrick FarrellÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s news conference on Tuesday to announce a new low-barrier shelter in the West End and its collaboration with Valley Health and Harmony House on the project.
In other business, the commission gave proclamations for Fair Housing Month for April 2025 and National Telecommunications Week in Cabell County starting on Sunday, April 13, through Saturday, April 19.
The commission approved an update to its personnel policy and procedures manual concerning retirement. The only change requires that retirement notices or requests be provided in writing.
Thecommission approved the appointment of Aaron Gallion to the Cabell/Wayne County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
