HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Cabell County Commission will advertise a request for proposal to purchase generators for two Cabell County senior centers using senior levy funding.
The purchase of generators will ensure all the countyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s senior centers have generators, Cabell County Administrator Beth Zerkle said. The advertisement will be for the Cabell County Community Services Organization (CCCSO) administrative building, where they prepare food for the other senior centers, and the Bob Bailey Wellness Center, which opened last year.
The remainder of the senior centers have generators, Zerkle said. There are eight senior centers in the county.
In other business, Barboursville Little League was presented with a check from Legislative Economic Development Assistance (LEDA) funds. The check will go toward additional lights for the leagueÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s softball fields, said board member Lauren Francis. Francis said the Little League will be able to give its teams the opportunity to play longer in the fall and spring seasons and later in the evenings, she said.
It will also allow the Little League to have two lighted fields for both its baseball and softball program, she said. The additional lighting will give the league an opportunity to bring travel tournaments to the area.
The commission ratified a resolution that allows Commission President Liza Caldwell to sign and submit a grant application to the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security for the State Homeland Security Grant program (SHSGP). Cabell County grant writer Charles Walker said the grant, worth $750,000, would be used for the Cabell County Emergency Response Center to acquire and purchase a new mobile command unit. The current one is outdated and doesnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t fit the specs to support law enforcement and other emergency agencies, Walker said.
The grant comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at the federal level but is also required to be sent to the state, Walker said. The county submitted it to the state due to a quick turnaround of one week for the application.
The commission agreed to allow the Cabell County sheriff to donate two Ford Explorers to the Wayne County SheriffÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Department and approved signing documentation to participate in a new national opioid settlement.
