HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Superintendent Tim Hardesty will recommend an agreement with the Huntington ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Department to assist in traffic at the new Meadows Elementary School during the regular Cabell County Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Board Office Meeting Room at 2850 5th Ave.
During a tour of the new school building in July, Hardesty told The Herald-Dispatch he did not anticipate traffic being an issue for the school because thereÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s a long driveway leading up to the entrance, as well as a traffic loop and separate loop for buses. The elementary school also has different dismissal times than the nearest school, Huntington High.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œI donÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t anticipate us backing traffic up down onto a piece of property thatÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s off of ours,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Hardesty said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œOur parent drop-off line would hold, literally, IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™m guessing 60-80 cars before we even touch the two-lane road that actually doesnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t have much traffic on it.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
The school is located off W.Va. 10. Drivers must turn on to Woodville Drive to access the school at 1 Wildcat Way, formerly 200 Warehouse Road.
Deputy Superintendent Justin Boggs, when asked about traffic at the new school Thursday, said overall itÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s gone ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œpretty well.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
He said he doesnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t know if there is a ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œproblem area,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ although having HPD there to assist would allow parents and guardians to adjust to traffic at the new school.
Hardesty is recommending HPD assist with traffic at Meadows ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œuntil the results of a traffic study or other option can be implemented,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ according to the agenda. Boggs said he does not have a timeline for when a traffic study might be conducted.
The board will also review HardestyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s goals for the 2025-26 school year.
Hardesty presented a draft of his goals during a special meeting Thursday, including a list of strategies for achievement and growth, student support, ensuring transparency and alignment of the districtÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s financial resources with its needs, and communication.
The full draft is available on the Thursday agenda on the Cabell County Schools website under
The board will review HardestyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s recommendations for several contracts, including:
