HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Cabell County Board of Education will vote to approve an affidavit of annexation for the New Milton Elementary School Property during its regular meeting Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Office Meeting Room, 2850 5th Ave.
Deputy Superintendent Justin Boggs said the affidavit, if approved, would be for the City of Milton to annex the New Milton Elementary School property, which sits just outside of city limits at 1224 NewmanÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Branch Road.
He said the purpose of the annexation would be to continue the schoolÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s working relationship with the city and allow for the Milton ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Department to have jurisdiction over the school so they could continue regular visits and keep the students safe.
Boggs said the new school is still on track to be substantially completed ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” meaning some furniture might still be moved in but the building will otherwise be finished ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” by the end of October. He said a tentative ribbon cutting is scheduled for December, and final student and teacher materials will be moved during the holiday break so the school can be used for the spring 2025 semester.
In other business, Superintendent Tim Hardesty will recommend the approval of the Imagine Learning ELL software licensure to support a research-based language development curriculum focused on the needs of English learners. The software would cost $9,900 annually from Title III funds.
During the special celebrations portion of the meeting, the board will recognize Huntington High student Lauryn Coffman for being the West Virginian winner of the American LegionÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s National Poppy Poster Contest.
The board will also recognize retired Cabell County Teacher Deborah Chapman for receiving the West Virginia Career Technical Education Distinguished Service Award from WV Department of Education during the Fall Career Technical Education Administrators Conference.
According to the agenda, Chapman worked in Cabell County for 50 years and served as an academy coordinator and family and consumer science teacher.
The agenda states the superintendent will recommend that the board ratify the administrative leave of a professional employee, with pay, that began Sept. 9, 2024, and will continue until a resolution is reached.
The board will also discuss a policy update, out-of-county student transfer requests and two field trips.
The complete agenda may be found on the Cabell County Schools website under ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œboard agendas.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
