HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” The Cabell County Board of Education will discuss several interagency agreements and contracts during its regular meeting Tuesday, July 1.
The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. at 2850 5th Ave. in the Board Office Meeting Room.
Superintendent Tim Hardesty will recommend interagency agreements between Cabell County Schools and other entities that would provide students with experience in a variety of fields, according to the proposals on the agenda.
The agreements Hardesty will propose for practical nursing students at the Cabell County Career and Technology Center to observe and acquire clinical experience during the 2025-26 school year are with:
Hardesty will also propose an interagency agreement between Cabell County Schools and Marshall Health Network and its member hospitals to provide an opportunity for practical nursing, medical assistant and high school health sciences students to acquire clinical experience.
The board will review several contract proposals. The full details of the contracts may be found on the Cabell County Schools website under ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œboard agendas.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Hardesty will also recommend the approval of a memorandum of understanding between Cabell County Schools and Marshall University for the Cabell Commitment for seniors.
The Cabell Commitment launched in May 2024 when Marshall announced it would automatically accept Cabell County high school seniors who graduate with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, no application or fee necessary. Marshall also has agreements with Wayne, Putnam and Kanawha county schools.
The board will also rescind one more professional personnel position that was cut alongside many others during a meeting in April 21. During a meeting earlier this month, Deputy Superintendent Justin Boggs said the list is getting shorter as staff are either being rehired, retiring or resigning.
During the special celebrations portion of the meeting, the board will recognize students who placed in the 2025 West Virginia Young Writers Contest. The winners have been invited to participate in the WV Young Writers Day at the University of Charleston where they may participate in workshops taught by published authors, according to the meeting agenda.
The first-place winners include second grader Genevieve Fleming of Village of Barboursville Elementary School; fourth grader Gemma Reams of Altizer Elementary School; fifth grader Evelyn Perry of Milton Elementary School; and seventh grader Maddison Davis of Barboursville Middle School.
Genevieve placed third overall for grades first and second in the state.
The board will also recognize fifth grader Emma Gladwell of Nichols Elementary School, who placed third in the 2025 PBS KIDS Writers Contest.
The board will also consider four student expulsions and several policy updates.
