HUNTINGTON ֱ Allegiant Travel Company will soon fly passengers from Huntington to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The new route at the Huntington Tri-State Airport (HTS) begins May 15, 2025, and will connect passengers to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with one-way fares priced as low as $59.
The flights will occur twice weekly, year-round, according to airport officials. Flights are available to be booked immediately at .
ֱItֱs another route offering I think is going to be successful,ֱ HTS Airport Director Brent Brown said.
ֱHistorically, back when Allegiant first started with HTS, we did have a Fort Lauderdale route and it went really well. So we are really excited to get it back. We think it is going to be a big route for us.ֱ
The route to Fort Lauderdale has not run for the past 10 years.
ֱFort Lauderdale is a popular destination, and historically Allegiant only had one gate so it made it very difficult to add new airports and new routes from there and as Allegiant grew, we lost the destination,ֱ Brown said. ֱAnd now we are getting it back and we are super happy about it.ֱ
The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport offers travelers access to the Fort Lauderdale region, Miami and the Florida Keys, among other Atlantic Coast destinations.
The airport averages 100,000 enplanements a year from both Allegiant and American Airlines, Brown said, adding he is hopeful the new Florida route will only add to that number.
ֱIt allows more access to their leisure destinations,ֱ Brown said. ֱInstead of them (travelers) having to drive to alternate airports, it will save a lot of time and money and they can just come directly to Huntington.
ֱAnd of course the hope is that it will boost our enplanements, and as the route becomes more and more successful, hopefully we will see that continue to grow and then be able to offer other destinations.ֱ
The service expansion for HTS comes without any government subsidies and no grant investments. Brown said the new route was solely a partnership between the airport and Allegiant from the airlineֱs belief in the airport.
The Fort Lauderdale route has been in the works for years, Brown said. He said he will continue to work with Allegiant and American Airlines to make more routes available at the airport.
ֱOur research shows that customers increasingly want affordability and convenience when they fly. Our low-cost fares and nonstop flights make Allegiant a top choice for leisure travelers,ֱ Drew Wells, Allegiantֱs chief commercial officer, said in a news release.
The Fort Lauderdale route is one of 44 new nonstop routes announced by Allegiant to leisure destinations throughout the country. This service addition equals the record for the largest expansion in company history.
