WELCOME: Welcome to Father Martin Smay, the new priest at Our Lady of Fatima, who has been in Huntington for only three weeks. He is the fifth of six children who grew up in Weirton and Wheeling, West Virginia, and has been a priest for seven years. An alumnus of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering, he received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. After receiving his mining engineering degree and before studying for the priesthood, he worked as a frontline underground mine foreman on a continuous miner section for CONSOL Energy at McElroy mine in Marshall County. For the last four years, he was the pastor of the two Catholic churches in Thomas and Parsons in Tucker County.

PASSED: Kudos to Cabell Midland High School teachers who instructed students who passed the Advanced Placement tests for 2024-25: Billy Williams, US history; Scott White, psychology; Lori Terango, English literature; Justin Ripley, American geography and human geography; Adam Riazi, statistics and computer science principles; Courtney Powers, calculus AB and BC; Morgan Hensley, English language; Seth Floyd, chemistry; and Maria Morrow, biology.
