WELCOME: Welcome to Father Martin Smay, the new priest at Our Lady of Fatima, who has been in Huntington for only three weeks. He is the fifth of six children who grew up in Weirton and Wheeling, West Virginia, and has been a priest for seven years. An alumnus of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering, he received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. After receiving his mining engineering degree and before studying for the priesthood, he worked as a frontline underground mine foreman on a continuous miner section for CONSOL Energy at McElroy mine in Marshall County. For the last four years, he was the pastor of the two Catholic churches in Thomas and Parsons in Tucker County.

CHAMPIONS: The Barboursville Little League 8U Stripes team ended its season on June 26 by winning its championship game for the district. This age group does not participate in statewide tournaments. Members of the team are Lawson Francis, Jarron Flynn, Brody Watson, Nash Wells, Indy Ross, Zander Garcia, Jackson Carter, Griffin Cochran, Collin Keaton, Casanova McNeil, Owen Sowards, and Aiden Beter. Coaches are Corey Watson, DJ Flynn and Lukas Beter.
BREAKFAST: The VFW Post 6878 of Proctorville, Ohio, offers its monthly breakfast on Saturday, July 12, from 8-10 a.m. for $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10 years old. The menu includes fried or scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, toast, fried apples, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Everyone is welcome and to-go meals are available.
TOURNAMENT: The John Call Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on July 26 at Esquire Golf and Country Club with arrival time by 7:15 a.m. and tee time at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $60 for each participant and includes golf fee and cart, lunch and prizes. You may bring your own team or you may be placed on a team. Proceeds will benefit the scouting program, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the youth program of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church.
