LEADERSHIP: Olivia Meade, Lincoln County, West Virginia, native and executive director of LilyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Place, is one of 26 individuals recently named to the third Leadership Huntington Class hosted by Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce. Previously involved in fundraising and financial management, she has more than eight yearsÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ experience in the nonprofit sector. She has a bachelorÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s degree in marketing and a masterÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s degree in business administration from Marshall University. She and her family live in Huntington. Class members attend monthly sessions from September 2025 to May 2026 followed by a graduation ceremony in June 2026. Congratulations Olivia for the desire to move LilyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Place to a higher level and assisting the community in various ways.

RECOGNIZED: Roger W. Hall, 79, long-time member of The Optimist Club of Ashland, was recently recognized with a Lifetime Membership Award. He has been a club member since Aug. 1, 1981. He is an attorney with Williams, Hall and Latherow in Ashland. The certificate of achievement was presented by Jimmy Lambert, club president. A proclamation presented by Mayor Chuck Charles was read by Judge Gerald Reams declaring the day as ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œRoger W. Hall DayÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ in Ashland. Congratulations on this achievement, Roger.
SPOOKY SPLASH: Not any splash but a spooky and hauntingly one takes place Thursday, Aug. 7, at Ritter Park as Summerween 2025 is offered from 6 p.m. to dark. Activities include watermelon and pineapple carving, kids’ games, Summerween costume contest with eeriest beach attire, spooky photo booth and festive refreshments. A special outdoor showing of the cult classic, “Friday the 13th,” begins at dusk with the older folk also invited. The event is free. NEWBORN: Lexie and Mick Farley of Christ Presbyterian Church became parents of a baby boy in July. Tucker, baby brother to Thompson and Ivy, was born July 7. May this little bundle of joy be a blessing to all knowing him.

HONORED: Congratulations to Tony Cavalier, WSAZ chief meteorologist. He was recently welcomed into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Ohio Valley Chapter Silver Circle. This honor was celebrated with sweet treat, including pecan pie, in the newsroom. The award honors professionals who have made a significant contribution to viewers they serve. Tony isnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t only a meteorologist ... he also participates and reports on community events as well.
ANTIQUES: The Pilot Club of Huntington hosts its 71st annual Antiques Show and Sale featuring professional dealers from multiple states offering a wide range of quality antiques, mid-century modern pieces, art and collectibles at a wide range of prices Friday-Sunday, Aug. 15-17, at Mountain Health Arena Conference Center. The show and sale is from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 16; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. Admission is $6, which covers entry for all three days. VISIT: In early June, Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Matthew Cowden visited in Hurricane, West Virginia. He was welcomed at St. TimothyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s in the Valley Episcopal Church as church members renewed commitments to their faith through confirmation and reception. A luncheon followed the service.
PRAYER JOURNEY: Milton United Methodist Church begins its annual school prayer journey at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. The event begins at Ona Elementary School and ends at the church around 5:30 p.m. Pizza and popsicles are served.
