RETIRED: After more than four decades, Monte Ward is throwing in the towel. The chief financial officer of Marshall Health Network officially retires Aug. 31 but continues in a consulting role from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31. FRIEND: Although itÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s been several years since IÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™ve visited or talked to a special friend, her place in my heart still remains. Paula Pauley of Barboursville, a wife, mother and grandmother, was someone I enjoyed being around, doing things with, talking to and confiding in with my heartÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s secrets. Thanks for being a part of some of my most memorable moments. This Christian sister celebrates a birthday Tuesday, Aug. 26, and may it be one of the best.

Now, he is a member of a third-generation group ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Jay Humphreys Trio ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” featuring his two daughters, Cassie and Cloe. The trio is featured at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at England Hill Freewill Baptist Church, 10201 Mayo Trail Road, Catlettsburg, Kentucky. In case of rain, the event moves inside. Those attending may bring lawn chair.
AWARDED: Stephanie and Scott Williams were recently awarded the August Yard of the Month at 2320 S. 11th St., Ironton. According to Ironton in Bloom, this beautifully landscaped yard features family antiques, variety of perennials, eye-catching window box filled with mauve petunias and draping greenery, rocks, ferns, many annuals and several unique trees, such as a miniature Crepe Myrtle. Congratulations for receiving this well-deserved award, as keeping an eye-catching award is hard work.
TEDDY BEAR CHECKUP: Mountain Health NetworkÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s HIMG offers a ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œtoyÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ teddy bear check-up day from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Huntington ChildrenÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Museum. Dolls are also welcomed. Reservations are not required. Admission is free. Following the check-up, the museum may be toured to see what it offers.
EXHIBIT: ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œJoyful Spirits: Haitian Art from The Winslow Anderson CollectionÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ continues through Feb. 8, 2026, at Huntington Museum of Art. The exhibitÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s opening exhibit takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, as part of the 4th Tuesday Tour Series. Artists featured in the exhibit include Gabriel Aliz, Montas Antoine, Rigaud, Benoit, Prefete Duffaut, Hector Hyppolite and others. Admission is free. Winslow Anderson, long-time supporter of HMA, was the first full-time glass designer at MiltonÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Blenko Glass Company.
