WV treasurer announces results of term deposit auction
CHARLESTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Five banks were successful bidders in the West Virginia term deposit auction held March 31, according to state Treasurer Larry Pack.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThe West Virginia Term Deposit Program is an innovative way to use state resources to invest funds in our local communities,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Pack said in a news release. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œBy placing these deposits through a competitive bidding process, we ensure fairness for our taxpayers while also giving our stateÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s financial institutions the opportunity to access a stable source of funds at favorable rates. These deposits can then be used throughout our communities to stimulate economic growth through home mortgages, auto loans and small business loans and credit.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
The five successful bidders were:
WesBanco Bank, $10 million
United Bank, $9.8 million
Citizens Bank of West Virginia, two bids totaling $10 million
The Citizens Bank of Weston, two bids totaling $200,000
CNB Bank, four bids totaling $10 million
The initiative, launched by the Board of Treasury Investments in 2023, invests state operating funds with West Virginia banks and financial institutions using a competitive bidding process.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œBanks placed bids for the entire $40 million within one minute; however, the auction continued for 30 minutes with banks actively being bumped out of the auction as new rates were bid,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ said Kara Hughes, executive director of the Board of Treasury Investments. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œOverall, it was a great success.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
The Board of Treasury Investments is responsible for managing what is typically referred to as the Consolidated Fund, a group of investment accounts containing the short-term operating funds from various state and local government agencies.
