is adding to its growing list of store closings. The Columbus, Ohio, discount retailer will be shuttering its Pea Ridge shopping center location, according to a sign on the store.
An exact date of closure has not been announced, but an associate who answered a call to the store said an unofficial date for closing is Dec. 22, depending on the storeÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s closing sales. The associate declined to give their name when asked, but said the store is currently offering 20% to 30% off on many items.
The store opened in April 2019, after approximately 26,000 square feet of the former Kmart building in the plaza at 5636 U.S. 60 near Barboursville was renovated. The store was previously located in the Eastern Heights Shopping Center along U.S. 60.
Big Lots officials said in 2019 the store had roughly 30 employees.
Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sept. 9 and announced it would close several stores, but it did not show the Pea Ridge location on its latest list of closures.
Big Lots is continuing to downsize its physical footprint as part of the ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy process, with plans to close an additional 56 stores across 27 states.
The discount retailer, which currently operates 1,389 stores across 48 states, initiated store closures in July with an initial plan to shut down 35 locations. By August, that number had swelled to 315, with more closures announced in the following months.
A message to Big Lots corporate communications department was not returned.
