The Barboursville Target will reopen Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, according to a banner on the newly renovated store. The store closed Feb. 2, 2024, following a hill slide that collapsed a corner of the building.
BARBOURSVILLE ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Barboursville Mayor Chris Tatum says when the store at Merritt Creek Farm shopping plaza reopens Nov. 3, it will not be the same store.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œThey have done significant renovations allowing for an expanded grocery department,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Tatum said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œItÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s going to be a larger store than it was before it closed.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Target closed the location after evacuating customers Feb. 2, 2024, when a sewer line collapsed behind the building, causing a corner of the structure to fall down the hillside. Some residents living below the slip were forced to evacuate their homes for a short period, until it could be stabilized.
Target vowed to rebuild and reopen shortly after the store closed. Target engineers and work crews, along with city and utility workers, started working to reinforce and repair the slip and are now finishing up on the store. Several workers were seen Tuesday inside the store.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWith the work that has been done to that hillside, there should not be any more problems,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Tatum said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œEverything was done to ensure the safety of the customers and the employees of Target. It would literally take an act of God to move that hillside now.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
Tatum thanked Target for remaining committed to the community.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe are thankful and grateful that Target made a commitment to our community and decided to stick around after such a long absence,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ he said. ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWe all just canÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t wait now for the reopening to see all they have done with this massive renovation.ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥
According to , they are in the process of hiring some new employees for the Barboursville store.
A message left for TargetÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s corporate communications department was not immediately returned Tuesday.
