HUNTINGTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Organizations in the region are taking precautionary measures this week to help community members stay cool as a heat wave moves across the country.
According to the National Weather Service, heat index values of up to 103 are expected through 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, in the Tri-State region. These hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
At the U.S. Youth Soccer Eastern PresidentÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Cup in Dunbar, West Virginia, Marshall UniversityÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s training staff, along with a cooling tent and ice bath, are available to keep everyone safe, tournament director Beth Noss said.

The Cabell County Public Library is one of many air-conditioned cooling centers in Huntington, supplying water bottles and a place for people to cool down this week.
Harmony House is extending its hours until 5 p.m. each day this week, said Executive Director Brittany Ochoa. The shelter is open to provide water, air conditioning and bathrooms from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will also be collecting donations of bottled water and popsicles throughout the week.
Ochoa said that Harmony House will also be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, despite previous plans to close for the Juneteenth holiday.
The Cabell County Community Services OrganizationÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s Senior Centers are also open as cooling centers this week, said CCCSO Assistant Director Teresa Atkins.
Water is available at each of the five senior centers in the region, and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. each day of the week at the Underwood Senior Center, Marie Redd Senior Center, Salt Rock Senior Center, Milton Senior Center and Bob Bailey Senior Wellness Center.
