CHARLESTON ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” Although the record-setting $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot was not hit in West Virginia, the state still produced winning tickets, including one worth $1 million, a $100,000 ticket, and two $50,000 tickets during the 42 consecutive drawings ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥” the longest in game and lottery history.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥œWhile we didnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t hit the jackpot here in West Virginia, we had players with big wins and that is quite exciting,ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ West Virginia Lottery Acting Director David Bradley said in a news release.
The Associated Press reported Powerball players in Missouri and Texas won the nearly $1.8 billion jackpot Saturday, overcoming astronomical odds to end the lottery gameÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s three-month drought without a big winner.
The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, and 62, with the Powerball number being 17.
The $1 million ticket from SaturdayÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s drawing was sold at 7-Eleven in the Eastern Panhandle on Hedgesville Road in Hedgesville, West Virginia. It matched all five numbers but not the Powerball and Power Play wasnÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™t purchased.
The $100,000 winning ticket from the Wednesday, Sept. 3 drawing matched four numbers plus the Powerball and the Power Play was purchased, doubling the original winning amount.
The stateÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥™s first $50,000 winner hit Saturday, Aug. 30, matching four numbers plus the Powerball, but the Power Play was not purchased. That ticket was purchased at Cheat Lake Price Cutter in Morgantown on Venture Drive.
The second $50,000 ticket was from the Sept. 6 drawing, again matching four numbers plus the Powerball without the Power Play purchase. That ticket was bought at the Somerville Exxon on Highway 33 in Linn, West Virginia.
The winners of these tickets should call the West Virginia Lottery office at 304-558-0500 for information on how to claim.
